WillSolicitor.co.uk is not a separate company. It is the name we use for the will writing, powers of attorney and estate planning side of B J McKenna & Co Solicitors LLP, a solicitors' practice that has been advising families since 1990. That is more than 35 years of doing the same work for the same kind of people.

We built this side of the practice because the work suits being done properly and at a fixed price. Most people only need a solicitor for this once or twice in their life, they want to know what it will cost before they start, and they want to speak to somebody who has seen what happens when it is done badly. That is the whole of the offer.

You will speak to a named person. Not a call centre, not a form, not a chatbot. The person you speak to on the consultation call is the person who deals with your file.

B J McKenna & Co Solicitors LLP is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Our firm number is 570089, and you can check it on the SRA's public register before you instruct us. We would encourage you to.

That regulation is not a badge. It carries obligations. We hold compulsory professional indemnity insurance. Client money is held under the SRA Accounts Rules. We publish our prices. We have a complaints procedure, and if you are not satisfied with how we handle a complaint you can take it to the Legal Ombudsman.

It matters here more than in most areas of law. Will writing and estate planning are not reserved legal activities, which means anybody at all can offer them. A great deal of this work in the United Kingdom is done by firms with no regulator, no compulsory insurance and no ombudsman. If their work fails, and it usually fails after the client has died, there may be nobody left to answer for it.

Wills, for one person or as a matching pair for a couple. Lasting powers of attorney, for property and finances and for health and welfare. Advice on inheritance tax and on how to structure what you leave behind.

Wills start from a fixed fee of £150 + VAT for a single will, and from £275 + VAT for a matching pair for a couple. A lasting power of attorney is a fixed fee, confirmed on your consultation call. You are told your fee before any work starts.

We work by phone and by consultation call, across England and Wales. You do not need to live near us and you do not need to take a day off work.

You book a consultation call. On that call we go through your family, what you own and what you want to happen, and we tell you what you actually need rather than what we would most like to sell you.

Once you are happy, we create a draft for you to approve, provided we have the information we asked for. If your circumstances are more involved than the fixed fee covers, we will tell you when you instruct us, not afterwards.

Then you read it, we change what needs changing, and you sign. We will tell you exactly how the signing has to be done, because getting that wrong is the most common way a will fails.
