Make a will

The document that says who gets what, who sorts it out, and who brings up your children. Without one the law decides instead, and the law does not know your family. Wills start from a fixed fee of £150 + VAT for a single will, and from £275 + VAT for a matching pair for a couple.

A will says what happens after you die. The next document says what happens if you are still here but cannot decide for yourself.

Power of attorney

A lasting power of attorney lets somebody you choose act for you if illness or an accident takes away your ability to act for yourself. You can only make one while you still can, which is why leaving it is the one mistake you cannot undo.

Those two are what you put in place while there is time. This next one is for the families who are already past that point.

Someone has died

Registering the death, the funeral, then the long job of gathering in what they owned, paying what they owed and passing on the rest. Our guide takes it in order, so you can see what has to happen this week and what can wait.

Going through an estate is also how most people first meet inheritance tax. It is worth knowing where you stand before your own family finds out for you.

Estate planning

Most estates pay nothing. If yours might, the moves that work are made years ahead and nearly all of them start with a will. Our guide sets out the allowances, the seven year rule on gifts, and which of the schemes you have been offered actually do what they say.

Everything starts in the same place, with a conversation. Here is what that looks like.

How it works

Three steps. The third is a conversation with a named member of the team, and once you are happy we create a draft for you to approve.

  1. Pick a time that suits you

Choose a slot in our calendar, including evenings and Saturdays. It takes a minute and there is no form to fill in first.

  2. Get a few things together

We tell you what to have to hand. Usually the full names and addresses of the people you want to appoint and inherit, and a rough idea of what you own. Nothing you need an accountant for.

  3. Your consultation call

You talk it through with a named member of the team. We tell you what you actually need and what it will cost, and once you are happy we create a draft for you to approve.

The people you would be dealing with.
