Tackle
Patient-led prostate cancer charity, UK-wide.
Tackle and Will Solicitors
Tackle Prostate Cancer is the working name of The National Federation of Prostate Cancer Support Groups, registered charity 1163152. It describes itself as the only patient-led, UK-wide charity for people with prostate cancer and those who care for them. Its roots are in the North West: early peer-support groups met in Manchester in the 1990s, and the federation launched in 2008 with nearly 50 groups. Today it supports around 160 local groups and offers one-to-one Treatment Decision Support from trained volunteers.
Tackle was built on men talking openly, and a will is one of the most useful conversations to have. Sorting it now, with lasting powers of attorney, means your partner and family are not left guessing. As a Tackle supporter, the first consultation call costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Our fees are fixed and published, from £150 + VAT for a single will or £275 + VAT for a pair of mirror wills, and you know the price before any work starts. If you want to remember Tackle in your will, we write the gift in for you.
Looking after the people behind the charity
A prostate cancer diagnosis often prompts men and their partners to put their affairs in order, whether or not the outlook is serious.
Treatment can mean spells when you would rather someone else dealt with the bills and paperwork. A lasting power of attorney lets the person you trust step in without delay. A will makes sure your partner and family are provided for in the way you choose. For Tackle members and supporters who know the value of men talking openly, sorting these documents is a calm, practical step, and a gift to Tackle can help the next man find a group.

I have just been diagnosed. Is it too early to think about a will?
It is never too early, and making a will does not mean expecting the worst. Many people find it a relief to have things settled so they can focus on treatment. While you are well, it is also easier to make clear decisions and to set up lasting powers of attorney, which must be made while you have capacity.
Can my partner make mirror wills with me?
Yes. Mirror wills are two wills with matching terms, usually leaving everything to each other and then to the same people. They are a common choice for couples. Pairs of mirror wills start from £275 plus VAT. Your adviser will check whether mirror wills suit you or whether something different would protect you both better.
How can I leave a gift to Tackle Prostate Cancer?
You can leave a fixed sum, a share of your estate or a share of what remains after family is provided for. Your adviser will name the charity correctly, using its registered name and number 1163152, so the gift is not lost or delayed. You can also mention the gift to the charity if you would like them to know.
Who decides for me if I am too unwell during treatment?
Without a lasting power of attorney, no one has automatic authority over your bank accounts or care decisions, not even your spouse. An LPA lets you choose who can act and when. A property and financial affairs LPA can be used with your permission while you still have capacity, which can help during long spells of treatment.
