The partnership

The King's School, Macclesfield and Will Solicitors

The King's School in Macclesfield is an independent, co-educational school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18. It has a long history. The school was founded in 1502 through an endowment from Sir John Percyvale, and refounded under a charter from Edward VI in 1552. Today around 1,330 pupils learn together on an 80 acre campus on Alderley Road in Prestbury, which the school moved to in 2020. King's is a registered charity, number 1137204, and serves families across Macclesfield and the wider Cheshire area.

We have partnered with King's because a school that takes children from 3 to 18 has families with children at every stage, and a will is how you plan for all of them together. As a King's parent, the first consultation call is free and you are under no obligation. Our fees are fixed and published, from £150 + VAT for a single will or £275 + VAT for a pair of mirror wills, and you know the price before any work starts.

Why it matters

Looking after the people behind the school

King's takes children from age 3, so many families here have children of very different ages, sometimes one in the infants and another in the sixth form.

That spread makes planning harder. A will lets you name a guardian for your younger children and set out how your estate should be held for all of them, so no child is treated differently simply because of their age when you die. School fees are a long commitment too. If you are paying them, it is worth thinking about how they would be met if something happened to you, and a will is the place to start that conversation.

Your questions

Questions from King's Macclesfield parents

Cannot see yours? Ask it on your free consultation call.

We have one child in the King's nursery and another in the sixth form. Can one will cover both?

Yes. A single will can name a guardian for any child under 18 and set out how your estate is shared between all your children. You can choose for everything to be held on trust until the youngest reaches a certain age, so each child is treated fairly. Your adviser will walk you through the choices on the consultation call.

Can my will help with school fees if I die?

A will can leave money on trust and give your trustees power to use it for your children's education and upkeep, which can include school fees. Whether there would be enough depends on your estate, life cover and other plans, so it is worth looking at the whole picture. Your adviser can explain how a trust would work in your situation.

What does it cost King's School parents?

You pay the same published fixed fees as every client. A single will starts from £150 + VAT and a pair of mirror wills for a couple from £275 + VAT. The exact fee is confirmed on your free consultation call, before any work starts, and there is no obligation to go further after that call.
