The partnership

Heaton Moor Rugby Club and Will Solicitors

Heaton Moor RUFC was founded in 1899 and plays at The Heatons Sports Club on Green Lane in Stockport. The club fields a 1st XV and a 2nd XV, with the first team competing in the Lancashire leagues, and runs minis and juniors rugby for younger players. It is a community club built around players, coaches, parents and volunteers from the Heatons and wider Stockport, with fundraising such as its 100 Club helping to keep the game going.

The minis and juniors sections bring young families to Green Lane every weekend, and young families are the people who most need a will. If you live with a partner but are not married, a will is what makes sure they are not left with nothing. If you are part of Heaton Moor Rugby Club, your first consultation call costs nothing and carries no obligation. Our fees are fixed and published, from £150 + VAT for a single will or £275 + VAT for a pair of mirror wills, and you know the price before any work starts.

Why it matters

Looking after the people behind the club

The Heatons are full of young families, and Heaton Moor's minis and juniors sections bring many of them to Green Lane at the weekend.

If that is you, a will matters more than you might think. It is how you name a guardian for your children and make sure your share of the family home goes where you intend. If you live with a partner but are not married, they may inherit nothing under the intestacy rules unless you leave a will. Adding a lasting power of attorney means someone you trust can manage your affairs if illness or injury stops you doing so.

Your questions

Questions from Heaton Moor members

My child plays minis at Heaton Moor Rugby Club. What should a parent's will cover?

The essentials are who looks after your children, who inherits and who sorts out your estate. You can also set up a simple trust so children receive money at an age you choose rather than at 18. Your adviser will walk you through each part in plain language and you will see a draft before anything is signed.

We are not married. Does my partner automatically inherit?

No. Under the rules in England and Wales, an unmarried partner has no automatic right to inherit, however long you have been together. They may have to go to court to make a claim. A will is the simplest way to provide for a partner. Your adviser can also explain how jointly owned property passes.

How long does the process take?

It starts with a consultation call booked at a time that suits you. After the call, your adviser prepares a draft for you to read. You can ask questions or request changes, and only when you are happy is the will finalised for signing. The pace largely depends on how quickly you review the draft.

Do I need to know exactly what I own before the call?

It helps to have a rough idea of your main assets, such as your home, savings, pensions and any life cover, but you do not need exact figures. Your adviser will ask questions to fill in the gaps and point out anything worth checking, such as who your pension provider would pay out to.
