Dogs4Rescue

The UK's pioneering kennel-free rescue.

The partnership

Dogs4Rescue and Will Solicitors

Dogs 4 Rescue is a registered charity, number 1215680, based on a rural site on the outskirts of Manchester. It calls itself the UK's pioneering kennel-free rescue. Instead of kennels, dogs live together and get exercise, company and care while they wait for a home. The charity keeps its spaces for dogs no one else wants and does not give up on them. It offers adoption with a one-month trial, fostering, pack rehabilitation and lifelong sanctuary care. Its Rescue World site is a 41 acre sanctuary and rehabilitation retreat.

Dogs 4 Rescue never gives up on a dog, and a will makes sure your own dog is never left without a plan. You can name who takes them on and leave money for their care. Your first consultation call is free, with no obligation. Our fees are fixed and published, from £150 + VAT for a single will or £275 + VAT for a pair of mirror wills, and you know the price before any work starts. If you would like to leave a gift to Dogs 4 Rescue, we write it into your will for you.

Why it matters

Looking after the people behind the charity

If you share your home with a rescue dog, you have probably wondered what would happen to them if you could not care for them.

The law treats pets as property, so a will is the place to say who should take them on, and you can leave a sum to help with their food and vet bills. Without clear wishes, a much-loved dog can end up back in rescue. Supporters who have watched Dogs 4 Rescue care for dogs nobody else would take may also want to leave a gift so that work carries on. A short consultation call can cover both.

Your questions

Questions from Dogs4Rescue supporters

Cannot see yours? Ask it on your free consultation call.

Can I say in my will who looks after my dog?

Yes. Pets are treated as property, so you can leave your dog to a named person, ideally someone you have already asked. You can also leave them a sum of money to help with costs, though they are not legally bound to spend it that way. It is sensible to name a back-up carer in case your first choice cannot help.

Can I leave a gift to Dogs 4 Rescue in my will?

Yes. You can leave Dogs 4 Rescue a fixed sum, a share of your estate or the remainder once family and friends are provided for. Your adviser will use the charity's registered name and number, 1215680, so the gift reaches the right organisation. If you are unsure how much to leave, a share often keeps its value better over time.

What happens to my dog if I die without a will?

Your dog passes under the intestacy rules, along with the rest of your belongings, to whoever inherits your estate. That person may not be able or willing to keep a dog. A will lets you choose a carer who knows your dog and its needs, which can make a difficult time easier for everyone.

What if I become ill rather than pass away?

A lasting power of attorney lets you choose someone to make decisions for you if you lose capacity. A property and financial affairs LPA can let them pay for your dog's care, kennelling or vet bills from your money. Without one, your family may need to apply to the Court of Protection, which takes longer and costs more.
