The partnership

Coffee 4 Craig and Will Solicitors

Coffee4Craig is a Manchester charity supporting people who are sleeping rough in the city centre. Risha and Hendrix Lancaster founded it in 2013, after the death of Risha's brother, Craig. Its evening drop-in opens when many other services have closed, with hot food, showers, a place to rest, and support and referrals. Its R&R Project offers personal recovery pathways, links to healthcare and emergency help during extreme weather. It is registered with the Charity Commission under number 1167146.

We have teamed up with Coffee 4 Craig because its supporters know how much a safety net matters, and a will is part of yours. As a Coffee 4 Craig supporter, your first consultation call is free and there is no obligation. Our fees are fixed and published, from £150 + VAT for a single will or £275 + VAT for a pair of mirror wills, and you know the price before any work starts. If you would like to remember Coffee 4 Craig in your will, we write the gift in for you.

Why it matters

Looking after the people behind the charity

Many Coffee4Craig supporters have seen how quickly life can fall apart without a safety net. A will is part of your own safety net.

It says who receives what, who looks after your children and who sorts out your affairs. Without one, the law decides, and the people you would choose may be left out. Coffee4Craig asks supporters to think about a gift in their will alongside gifts to loved ones. That might be a share of what is left once family is provided for, or a set amount. Your adviser can help you word it so it reaches the charity as you intend, and you can change it later.

Your questions

How do I leave a gift to Coffee4Craig in my will?

Tell your adviser on the consultation call that you would like to include Coffee4Craig. You can leave a share of your estate, a fixed sum or a particular item. We will use the charity's registered name and number, 1167146, so there is no doubt about who should receive it. You approve the draft before anything is signed.

Should I leave a share of my estate or a fixed amount?

A share, such as five per cent of what is left, rises and falls with the value of your estate, so it keeps pace over time. A fixed amount is simple and predictable, but its value can shrink with inflation. Many people provide for family first and then leave a share to a cause they care about. Your adviser can talk through which suits you.

Will my family still be looked after if I include a charity?

Yes. You decide the order. Most people leave their home and the main part of their estate to family, then add a gift to a charity like Coffee4Craig from what remains. Your adviser will check that the people who depend on you are provided for and that the gift does not leave anyone short.

What if my circumstances change after I sign?

You can update your will whenever life changes, for example after a marriage, a separation, a new child or a move. Small changes can sometimes be made with a short addition called a codicil. Larger changes are usually best handled with a new will. Your adviser will tell you which is right and confirm any fee first.
