The partnership

Caunce O'Hara and Will Solicitors

Caunce O'Hara is a firm of chartered business insurance brokers with its main office at 82 King Street, Manchester. It arranges specialist cover for freelancers, contractors, self-employed consultants and small businesses across the UK, including professional indemnity, public liability, employers' liability, cyber and directors and officers insurance. The firm says it has provided this cover since 1995. Caunce O'Hara is a division of Markel International, the Lloyd's market insurer, and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Your job is putting protection in place before it is needed, so the idea behind a will and a lasting power of attorney will feel familiar. They do that same job for your own household. If you work at Caunce O'Hara, you can book a free first consultation call with no obligation to go further. Our fees are fixed and published, from £150 + VAT for a single will or £275 + VAT for a pair of mirror wills, and you know the price before any work starts.

Why it matters

Looking after the people behind the firm

You spend your working day helping clients plan for things going wrong. A professional indemnity claim, a cyber breach, an accident at work.

It is easy to leave your own household uncovered in a different way. Without a will, the law decides who inherits, and an unmarried partner can receive nothing. Without a lasting power of attorney, nobody has automatic authority to run your bank account if illness or injury leaves you unable to. People who work in insurance already understand the idea of putting protection in place before it is needed. A will and an LPA apply that same thinking to your own family.

Your questions

I work at Caunce O'Hara. Is this a staff benefit?

This page gives Caunce O'Hara staff a simple route to us. The fees are the same published fixed fees every client pays: from £150 plus VAT for a single will and from £275 plus VAT for mirror wills. Your first consultation call is free, and there is no obligation to go further after it.

What does an LPA do that insurance does not?

Insurance pays money when something happens. A lasting power of attorney decides who can use your money and make decisions for you if you cannot. Without one, even a spouse has no automatic right to run your accounts. Income protection or critical illness cover is far more useful when someone has the authority to manage the payments.

Do I need a will if I am young and rent my home?

It is worth thinking about. If you have a partner you are not married to, children, savings or a pension, a will lets you decide who benefits and who looks after any children. Renting does not change that. A will for a single person starts from £150 plus VAT, and the fee is confirmed before any work starts.

Can I do this without taking time off work?

Yes. Everything starts with a consultation call, so there is no office to visit. You talk it through with a named adviser, we prepare a draft, and you approve it before anything is signed. We explain exactly how to sign and witness the will correctly so that it is valid.

Getting started
