The partnership

Bowdon RUFC and Will Solicitors

Bowdon RUFC is a community rugby union club based at Clay Lane in Timperley. Founded in 1877, it is one of the long established clubs in the area. The first XV won Regional 2 North West in the 2024 to 2025 season and now plays in Regional 1 North West. Beyond the senior men's sides, the club runs a women's first XV, under 18 women, touch rugby for women and girls, colts, age grade teams from under 6 upwards, veterans and a mixed ability side.

Bowdon is a family club, where parents stand on the touchline while their children play and many of those parents once played for the club themselves. That is the stage of life when a will matters most, because it is how you name a guardian for your children. As a Bowdon RUFC member, you can start with a free first consultation call and no obligation. Our fees are fixed and published, from £150 + VAT for a single will or £275 + VAT for a pair of mirror wills, and you know the price before any work starts.

Why it matters

Looking after the people behind the club

Bowdon is a family club. On a Sunday morning at Clay Lane you will see parents on the touchline while their children play in the age grade sides, and many of those parents played for the club themselves.

If you have children under 18, a will is the only way to name who would look after them. It also lets you decide how your home and savings pass on, rather than leaving it to the intestacy rules. Rugby is a contact sport and life is unpredictable, so a lasting power of attorney is worth thinking about too. It lets someone you trust step in if you cannot decide for yourself.

Your questions

I coach at Bowdon RUFC on Sundays. When can I fit in the consultation call?

You book the call at a time that works for you, so it can sit around training, matches and the rest of your week. The call is free and there is no obligation. Your adviser will talk through your family, your property and what you want to happen, then confirm the fixed fee before any work starts.

How do I choose guardians for my children?

Think about who shares your values, who your children know well and who would be practical and willing. It is wise to ask them first. You can name more than one, and a backup in case your first choice cannot act. Your adviser will explain how guardianship works in a will and how to record your choice clearly.

I have had a rugby injury before. Should I think about an LPA as well as a will?

It is a sensible thing to consider. A will only takes effect after death. A lasting power of attorney covers the time while you are alive but unable to make decisions, whether because of an injury, an illness or something else. There are separate LPAs for finances and for health and welfare, and your adviser can explain both.

What if my circumstances change after I make my will?

Wills can be updated. Marriage, divorce, a new baby or a house move are all good reasons to review yours. In England and Wales, getting married usually cancels an existing will unless it was written with the marriage in mind. Your adviser can tell you whether a small change or a new will is the better route.
